The Liverpool docks are the perfect setting for this kind of photography meetup. We will be starting with an overview of landscape photography technique, how to decide what to take a picture of and how to compose shots, we will then move into settings and more technical challenges to get an idea of when the camera behaves best for landscapes.

The photo was taken at around 11 am on the 8th of March on a sunny day which made it impossible to expose the whole scene correct. I sat watching, hoping the Egret would move out of the direct sunlight which it did. I got a few shots and some video of it fishing but then I thought it was going to take off so quickly switched from video to stills and got some shots, this having the best wing position. Taken with a Nikon Z8 and Nikon 600 f4 with the 1.4 teleconverter attached.

After the Litfest Presentation and announcement of the winners of the photography competition I wanted to head out onto the castle area of the City. Despite the rain I wasn't deterred to take some images - shoot in all weathers! The dark stones of the buildings of the castle make the area look spooky in the day never mind night! I wanted to capture the photo as if it could have been taken in 1850s.

This shot was taken on a stormy Sunday morning in early November 2024. A snowstorm was moving in from the West, creating a dramatic sky with a few breaks in the clouds, allowing sunlight to illuminate the Moraine Park valley with its fall colours on full display. I had my trusty old Nikon D800 with me and knew this could be a good day for a photo shoot. I have often visited this spot on the Bear Lake Road, but this morning was special. One of the joys of photography is that the same scene ca
